Choices and Options

Keeping up with the changes and language of education, and Post 16 choices can leave you feeling dazed and confused. But somehow we have to support our young people through it.

Watch the video and then look through our Learners Explore pages. You can also view the Careers & Pathways pages for information that will help you support your young person through the decisions they must make.

Adverse Childhood Experiences ACEs - what are they and how can we reduce the impact on ourselves and families?

Some twenty years ago an American doctor started some research into how difficulties when growing up would affect long term outcomes and the results have been shocking.
The ACEs study's results show that these issues in childhood contribute to health problems decades later. These include chronic diseases—such as heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes—that are the most common causes of death and disability. It also shows a major impact on risk taking behaviours and other social issues.
The ACEs Recovery toolkit is a 10-week course that provides an understanding of living with ACEs, and what we can do to reduce the impact it has on us and our families.

Improve your understanding of Mental Health and gain the skills to develop family well-being and resilience

Youth Connect 5 is a course that gives parents/carers  and others supporting children and families, the knowledge, skills and understanding to help their children develop strong emotional well-being through resilience-building techniques. We are delivering courses in London and on the Wirral.
As parents, we develop our own approaches to nurturing, caring for and developing our children as they grow from babies through to young adults. But sometimes situations arise in life – either at home or at school – that may bring some challenges for you and your child to deal with.

Being able to deal with these challenges, and helping your child manage life when it gets tough will make them stronger and improve their chances of being able to bounce back when things are stacked against them.
There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach, but Youth Connect 5 will teach you the skills you can then draw upon to both build your own resilience, but most importantly your child’s.

Facilitated by Merseyside Youth Association with funding by CHAMPS, the Public Health Collaborative in Cheshire and Merseyside through Health Education England.

Join our Micro-Volunteering campaign

All jobs require certain skills that are necessary for progress and success. From communication to CV writing, if our young people are to secure employment, they must master these areas, in today's competitive environment.

Encourage them to consider and develop these transferable skills. Watch videos on how to communicate and prepare for interviews or improve their networking skills by volunteering at a local community group or by joining a club. Take up an activity and develop your team skills and problem solving. It doesn't always have to look like work to build up skills.
